Abstract

Word order is a universal phoneme and includes language universals. This research aims to analyze the word order in the Bugis language. This research is qualitative research. The approach used for the subject of this research is the language typology approach. In qualitative research, the main instrument is the researcher himself who will conduct interviews, record, take notes and listen directly to the field. The sample for the data source for this research was Bugis speakers. Determining the sample in this research is by selecting the sample. The overall data was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The step taken is that the recorded data is transcribed into written form to answer the questions that have been set in the problem formulation. The results of this research show that the syntactic structure of the Bugis language is slightly different from the structure of the Indonesian language as a comparison. While Indonesian is known for the SPO structure, Bugis language is known for the PSO structure. To identify the class of Bugis language adjectives in a sentence, it can be done similarly to Indonesian. Adjectives can fill the predicate function with the non-verb category and fill the object function (as part of the object in the form of a noun phrase by explaining words in the noun category as in sentences, for example the noun phrase "aju lamp∑". The word "aju" as a noun is explained by adjective “lamp∑”.
