Abstract

This study explores the strategic role of pesantren in developing the Islamic economic mindset among students, particularly in strengthening their understanding of Sharia economic values as a foundation for ethical financial behavior. As key Islamic educational institutions, pesantren are uniquely positioned to integrate religious knowledge with economic insights grounded in Islamic law. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach involving document analysis, interviews, and observations across several pesantren in Tanjung Jabung Timur. The findings indicate that pesantren contribute significantly to shaping students’ mindset through curriculum integration, practical economic activities, and value-based learning. Programs such as cooperative management, entrepreneurship training, and community service reinforce principles such as halal–haram awareness, justice, risk-sharing, and social responsibility. The study concludes that pesantren play an essential role in preparing a generation capable of participating in and advancing the Sharia economic system. Future research is encouraged to examine pesantren models in other regions to broaden the understanding of Islamic economic education.
