Shariah Law in the 21st Century: Harmonizing Tradition and Modernity

Abstrak

This study explores the evolving role of Shariah law in the 21st century, focusing on the challenges and innovations involved in harmonizing traditional jurisprudential principles with modern societal demands. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected from literature reviews, case studies, and expert interviews across multiple countries practicing Shariah law. The results reveal that Shariah law is undergoing significant transformation to address issues such as legal pluralism, technological advancements, globalization, and gender-related interpretations. Innovative approaches, including digital fatwas, Islamic fintech regulation, and hybrid legal frameworks, demonstrate the adaptability of Shariah law in contemporary contexts. The study underscores the importance of balancing ethical and religious foundations with modern governance requirements, ensuring Shariah law remains relevant, socially responsive, and effective in guiding legal, economic, and social behaviour
